The Read a Recipe children had a bang-up, great time at Charnews Farm recently. Julie introduced Denise Market, farm manager, who did a stellar job once again, teaching the children about sustainability on the farm and just how important it is. They began their outing in the barn–see the photo–then took a tour.

Everything has a recipe! As the summer ended the students who worked on the garden were asked to leave a piece of them with it. They were each given a rock where they have to come up with a goal they wanted to accomplish over the next school year. They wrote their goals on their rocks
Cucumbers, cucumbers and more cucumbers! Our garden at Greenport Library produced an abundance of cucumbers this summer. As part of our program we stress not on only healthy eating, but healthy living. We talk about not being wasteful and one of the areas we discussed is what to do with leftover foods so they are not wasted.
The lucky Read a Recipe children visited Hallockville Farm Museum on a splendid autumn Saturday and were entertained and educated by Herb Strobel, executive director at the farm. The students enjoyed the summer harvest and made a fresh salad in the garden! They enjoyed picking the lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes for the salad. It was wonderful to see then enjoying this healthy snack.
